Chetco Community Public Library LogoBy Julie Retherford, Director

This month is the Friends of the Chetco Library’s bi-annual book sale in the large meeting room of the library! The library is so thankful to our Friends group for the hard work they put into raising funds for us.  The fundraisers help pay for program supplies, books, and various special projects & needs that come up throughout the year.

This sale is going to be a big one! We have rooms and closets stuffed to capacity with boxes of books waiting to be brought out and sold.  The sale will take place on the following days:

  • Thursday, November 8: 10am-4pm
  • Friday, November 9: 10am-4pm
  • Saturday, November 10: 10am-4pm
  • Sunday, November 11: Noon-3pm ($2 BAG SALE)

The Friends of the Chetco Library are still looking for volunteers to help work the sale.  If you’d like to volunteer, call or stop by the library and we’ll get you signed up.

Youth Events

Play and Learn, Tuesday, November 20th, 10:30-11:30am. Play and Learn is a NEW organized play group for young children and the people who take care of them. Each group has a facilitator that plans and sets up activities for the children and their caregivers to play together. Facilitators help care givers learn more about child development, how children learn through play, and what caregivers can do at home to help the children in their care grow and learn. Play and Learn is sponsored by Southwestern Community College. It will run on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30am, for nine weeks. It’s open to children ages up to five years.

This program is facilitated by Gina McDonald, Head Start Family Education Specialist from Brookings, and Billie Furuichi, staff member for Care Connections Resource & Referral who is bilingual and can do Spanish Story Times!

Storytime. Wednesday, November 21st ONLY, 10:30-11:30am. It’s that time a year when we get to spend extra time with our families and friends and the library’s annual book sale. Because of this, Story Time will only be on Wednesday, November 21st at 10:30am.

Legos 4 Little Ones. Friday, November 30th ONLY, 10:00am-12:00pm. Young children and their caregivers have full reign of our oversized Lego brick collection during this time for free building and play.
