Congratulations to Kat Temple!
We are pleased to announce that Katlyn (Kat) Temple has been promoted to Assistant Director of the library. Since 2014, Kat has been working primarily in the cataloging department, but she has taken on many varied responsibilities, particularly over the past year. She recently earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from Emporia State University and has a broad range of experience that will help her succeed. Kat will be overseeing the clerks, customer service, and all of the collection, among other things. We are lucky to have her and excited to see what she will bring to this brand new position.
Presentation: Our Climate Crisis, Feb 12, 5pm. Dr. Alan Journet, co-founder and co-facilitator of Southern Oregon Climate Action Now will give a presentation entitled “Our Climate Crisis: The Urgency Grows” in the large meeting room. SOCAN co-facilitator Dr. Kathy Conway will also give a brief summary of who SOCAN is, and what it does.
Workshop: Free Naloxone Training, Feb 14, 9am-12pm. Stop by for a drop-in naloxone training event by AdvancedHealth in our large meeting room. Everyone who attends will receive free training to administer naloxone, a medication that helps reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Class: Identity Theft Protection, Feb 21, 5:30-6:30pm. Join the Financial Education team at Rogue Federal Credit Union for a free class to learn about common identity theft scams and how to avoid them. Registration is required to participate. Play and Learn, Tuesdays, 10:00am-12:30pm. Play and Learn is a NEW organized play group for children ages 0-5 and the people who take care of them. Children and their caregivers play together, and the facilitator will help caregivers learn more about child development, how children learn through play, and what you can do at home to help them grow and learn. Play and Learn is sponsored by Southwestern Oregon Community College.
Storytime. Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30am. Young children and their caregivers are invited to join Miss Linda each Wednesday morning for stories, songs, and games in the large meeting room.
Tech Know. Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00pm. In this group, elementary and middle schoolers work together on technology projects that teach creativity and engineering concepts. This group is open to all young people ages seven and up.
STEAM. Thursdays, 3:30-5:00pm. Our after-school STEAM group meets to work on projects that teach Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math concepts, and is designed for kids in elementary and middle school.
Legos 4 Little Ones, Fridays, 10:00am-12:00pm. Young children and their caregivers have full reign of our oversized Lego brick collection during this time for free building and play.
Circulation Display: This month, our book display theme is “Bittersweet: Sink Your Teeth Into a Tragic Love Story!” You don’t have to love Valentine’s Day to love these romances gone awry!
Large Meeting Room: A collection of paintings by Sara Broderick, Pete Chasar, and Dave Howell.
Lobby Display Case: A display of musical instruments from the personal collection of Russ Oelheim.
