Dear library users,
The Governor’s office has issued recommendations for mitigating the impact of the virus. These recommendations include closing all public schools, cancelling many events, and maintaining a social distance of three feet whenever possible. The Chetco Community Public Library Board of Directors and I believe that now is the time to support our State’s efforts in minimizing potential spread.
Effective Monday, March 16th – Friday April 10th, all events and meeting room reservations at the Chetco Community Public Library are cancelled. Public hours are reduced to Monday – Saturday, 1pm – 6pm.
Please be assured–we are not panicking. We have researched the science and are confident that COVID-19 is mild for most people who get it. However, we also recognize that it is potentially dangerous for some seniors and those who are high risk. We want to protect them, and we do not want our dedicated healthcare professionals to become overwhelmed with patients and unable to provide the best treatment possible to those who truly need it.
Also beginning Monday, the Friends of the Library Bookstore in the Annex will be closed, and we will be closing half of our public computers to allow for more social distancing. We’ll disinfect computers between each use, and limit computer session length as needed to meet demand. All communal toys and games are being disinfected and put away. We will not be accepting any magazine or book donations. Health professionals say washing your hands (for 20 seconds) is the best option, so we will make sure soap dispensers are full, and we ask that you wash your hands frequently. We’ll also make hand sanitizer available to you while supplies last. If you are sick, please refrain from coming to the library.
To make using the library as safe as we can for you, we are offering curbside delivery of materials during our new adjusted hours–just go online or call us to place items on hold. When you receive notice that your items have arrived, come to the library, park in a front parking spot, and give us a call with your library card handy. We’ll pull your items and bring them out to you.
Our online resources will continue to be available, including hoopla and Library2Go, where you can checkout free e-books and audiobooks. Learn more about our online resources at our website. If you need help getting set up with those resources, give us a call or stop by during open hours.
We thank you all so much for your support. We will continue to watch the situation and research the facts, and we will adjust accordingly. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for any changes or updates. We’ll be back up and running at full capacity as soon as we feel we can safely do so. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to use by email (email@example.com), phone (541-469-7738), or even on Facebook chat. We’ll help you however we can.
