CELEBRATING LOCAL ARTISTS

The Forest Room Gallery

Check out our free community gallery space in the Library's Forest Room, open during regular library hours.

The Forest Room Gallery features three spotlit walls to showcase framed and two-dimensional pieces, while our 6' x 6' glass display case offers a more intimate display venue for smaller works, such as artisan-crafted materials, curio collections, and smaller three-dimensional works.

We strive to showcase the artwork of local artists and artists who live and create in Curry and Del Norte Counties. We're currently looking for artists able to showcase their work between July and December 2025.

April’s Featured Gallery Artist: Lisa Amato

Medium: Watercolor and Photography

This April, you’re invited to enjoy a series of nature-infused watercolor paintings and photographs by local artist Lisa Amato!

Artist’s Statement:

I was born in Niagara Falls, New York and moved to Sacramento, CA with my family while in middle-school. I joined the US Air Force after graduating from high school and served overseas during Operation Desert Storm. After returning stateside, I relocated to Portland, Oregon and started a family. Since then, I lived in San Jose, CA for 26 years and now have retired to the place my heart is happiest, beautiful Brookings, Oregon.

Creativity has always been a familiar companion to me. It started many years ago with an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera and blossomed into a passion for photographing anything and everything that caught my eye.  That led to acquiring better quality equipment and opportunities to exhibit and sell my photos. I put my camera equipment away after I went to work full time in 2003.

Watercolor painting was a hobby that started during the COVID-19 lock-down when I needed something creative to occupy my mind and keep me balanced. I find that watercolor is both challenging and relaxing, and I love that I’m always learning. I am self-taught and look for inspiration in anything from the simplest flower to a grand and sweeping seascape.
