Library Cards

Library cards issued by the Chetco Community Public Library District allow their holders to borrow and access a wide variety of information and entertainment materials. Card holders also have remote access to the District’s licensed digital resources.

Since the library is funded primarily by taxes levied on property within the district, library cards are available free of charge to patrons who reside or own property within the library district.

The library also honors valid library cards from any other library in the Coastline Library Network.

Applying for a Library Card

NOTE: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the library will issue library cards over the phone. Cards may be picked up at the library or mailed to you. Residential address requirements still apply. If you do not reside or own property within the library district, you may apply for a Non-Resident card for a fee.

If you would like to apply for a library card remotely, please call the library at 541-469-7738.

To receive a library card, the applicant must show a library staff member one piece of identification from the list below that clearly displays their name and residential address within the boundaries of the district. P.O. boxes alone are not acceptable as proof of residence.

The following may be used for identification:

Voter’s registration card
Current Oregon driver’s license
Current Oregon ID card
Personalized check
Coast Guard Military ID
Current utility bill or receipt (water/sewer, electric, or gas)
Current telephone or internet service provider bill
Current paycheck stub (issued within the last 30 days)
Current Brookings-Harbor High School student body card (16 and older)
Current rent receipt (showing 1 month or more)
Signed lease or mortgage agreement
Current property tax statement
Signed contract for property purchase (with address listed)

Other Card Types

Non-Resident Cards

Individuals 16 years and older who live outside the library district boundaries, do not own property within the district, cannot present acceptable proof of residence, or do not possess a valid Coastline Library Network card may purchase a library card for a fee. Non-resident library card fees are:

6-month – $35/household
1-year – $60/household

Juvenile Cards

Individuals 15 years and younger must have a parent or guardian present to receive a full-permissions library card. The parent or guardian must provide proof of residence within the library district or pay for a Non-resident card. If the parent or guardian has a library card, it must be in good standing prior to completing a library card application for a child. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for all lost or damaged items, fines, and fees on the child’s library card.

One-Item Patron Cards

Individuals who do not otherwise qualify for a library card because of lack of identification, residential address, or parental permission may obtain a One-Item library card. This card allows the holder to check out one item at a time. If the patron is later able to provide identification, including residential address and/or parental permission, then staff will update their account to one of the appropriate card types described above.

Passport Library Cards

Chetco Community Public Library participates in the Oregon Passport Library Card program. This program allows patrons who have a valid library card from another participating library to obtain a card from our library. The Passport library card allows the cardholder to check out up to 10 items at a time with a maximum of 3 DVDs or CDs.

A list of participating Oregon Passport Library Card libraries can be provided upon request or found online at To sign up for a Passport Library Card, your will need your valid home library card and a current form of identification from the list above.
